I’m Kathy to my friends and if you’re new to my blog, then welcome and don’t feel the need to call me Kathryn (although I love it). I recently lost about 55 pounds and had to get creative to replenish my whole wardrobe, which led me to shop at lots of thrift shops, consignment stores and look for great online options. It’s been an amazing journey and along the way, I’ve begun to sell a lot of items as I don’t need them, grow out of them, find good deals, and to build my own online “empire”…Haute “fashionble, high class” and Angel because I’m a Meredith College alum and we are the “Angels”….hence HauteAngel.

As a former newspaper reporter and professional photographer, with a B.A. in English and a minor in Professional Communications , I have spent my post-collegiate years raising two gorgeous kids with my husband of 29 years and working as a corporate paralegal after a brief stint as a newspaper reporter/columnist.

I have a passion for all things fashion, enjoy following all the designers, runway shows and offer my reviews on this blog.

First and foremost, I love being a girl, so God took pity on my pocketbook and gave me an athletic daughter who dresses up “some” times. (Read all about my amazing Sara on her blog, theworkingathlete.net). I love buying people gifts and finding the right items for a really great price.

I get ready every day as I am a Southern lady and we don’t go out unkempt. I fix my hair, apply a little makeup, put on a coordinated outfit, usually with heels and cool jewelry.  I lay out what I’m going to wear the next day every night. I don’t take a long time getting ready or primp like a vain weirdo, but I do want to look nice and I always reapply my lipstick during the day. Always!

I love fashion, especially vintage clothing and jewelry. I enjoy helping people find great deals, putting great outfits together, going to thrift and consignment shops, perusing yard, estate and tag sales. So I am going to share all those tips, trends, the best online sites, coupons, deals, and I will also sprinkle in lots of fun life stories, advice, thoughts, vents, quips and some sassy Southern charm.

My kids were both still living at home, but one just finished renovating a townhouse , moved into it and now we are full thrust planning her “Gatsby-themed” wedding, but my son is living at home at 23, “finding himself”. Read all about Matt on his blog at http://mattcolvard.wordpress.com. He just got a story published called “Scratching the Itch” on tipsylit.com.

Hence…my almost empty nest! Love, HauteAngel

I realized this 2014, that I don’t just want a fashion blog. I really want to produce a fashion and lifestyle blog. I read a lot of blogs and the ones I enjoy aren’t focused on one thing. They are about the person and his or her life, such ashttp://theworkingathlete.net/ and http://www.pbfingers.com/. The main focus for my blog will always be fashion, but I’m going to talk a lot more about myself, my life, my health, happiness and weight loss goals. With that said, I have serious blog goals for 2015, as follows:

1. 50,000+ FOLLOWERS

HauteAngel and related social media accounts (Pinterest, Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter) may contain advertising and affiliate marketing links. The author may earn compensation related to clicks and purchases of linked items.

  1. Southerner. Ex-reporter. Five kids. Three grandchildren. Some similarities. Where we part ways is I’m a Dooky!

Thanks for visitng my online writing studio and for electing to follow my work. And, congrats on the love potion in your marriage. Many of us are jealous of that.

  2. Hi. Thanks for following my blog – mutual Tarheel Belles….doesn’t matter if the colors are Duke Blue or Carolina Blue….I’m a Duke-y but love Chapel Hill….I am looking forwards to posts from you. I need all the hints/help I can get!

  3. Thanks so much for visiting my blog and deciding to follow me. I really like your style Kathy! And I plan to follow you too! 🙂

  4. Thanks for the follow on my blog and please tell me you weren’t really married at 5 years old……….. But maybe that’s what you do in North Carolina (wherever that may be lol!).. Or of course it could be american ‘math’. We have maths, plural, so are more flexible 🙂 I am impressed at the loss of 55 lbs, that’s as near as damnit 4 stone in British money…. bet you feel a lot better and a lot healthier, You look great in the photos and nothing near the age I assume you must be!

  5. Thank you for the follow! I am following back as you intrigued me as soon as you said “vintage fashion.” I’m looking forward to your posts! Keep smiling! 🙂

  6. Well, Ms. Kathy, I’m so glad you decided to follow my blog. It’s not so often I find someone with so much in common with my background. Although I was raised in an Air Force family, my parents were from Georgia and much of my elementary and high school days were in Florida. So where in the South are you living? And I’m glad you explained that it’s the Southern upbringing that always likes to dress well, wear a little lipstick and jewelry when going out of the house. All of this time, I was just thinking it was the example of my Mama. Looking forward to sharing in your adventures.

  7. An amazing person and an amazing blog. Thank you so much for kindly visiting and now following my own. I shall definitely be returning again soon to learn more about you my friend?
    Kind Regards

    1. Thanks for following back. I did a low carb diet for a year, under the supervision of a doctor. I’ve gained some of it back. As soon as I started saying oh, one piece of cheesecake is ok….it’s a slippery slide

  9. IIt is nice to find how you got into fashion.
The minute attention we pay for each thing leads us to evolve a plan of or own which if properly executed lands you in cheer.
That is the way you came up with this idea, I presume.
    Thanks for the follow..
MY poems are my experience of life.
    All the best.

    1. I’m sure many women think this is old-fashioned but it’s the small things like reapplying lipstick, powdering my nose…that make me feel put together and pretty. I love being a woman. We have so many more fashion options, makeup, it’s a fun gender!

      1. Oh, I hear you! big time 🙂 always a lipstick and a bit of concealer in my bag, and mascara under any circumstances. Not much, just enough to make me feel pretty. Then it is a virtous circle: you feel good, you “shine” good and people around you feel good, no? 😉 it all starts with little things..

  11. Hi. Thanks for the follow. I’m following you too now because though I’m not really turned on by ‘fashion’ I see you can write, have a journalism background like me, and intend to write on whatever catches you at the time; I’m all for that!
