Happy Sunday! Buddy Bear is taking a nap.

BREAKFAST: Trader Joe’s Gluten Free frozen waffles with 100% pure maple syrup

LUNCH: Small field green salad with mushrooms, avocado, broccoli and flax seed, also a sprinkle of EVOO and Balsamic Vinegar. I had a handful of Trader Joe’s Pita Chips too, so good. Did you know all the items with a “V” on the corner of bag or box at Trader Joe’s indicates it’s a Vegan item?

DINNER: Butternut squash cubes, salmon grilled with a little lemon, kale sautéed in garlic and a tad of olive oil and mushrooms. One butternut squash cubed fills up a large pan. Put two tablespoons of olive oil, a little salt, pepper and a tablespoon of garlic power/or two minced garlic cloves. Mix it all up, spread out on pan and cook at 400 degrees for 25-30 minutes. It’s wonderful.

I have been putting flax seed in salads, yogurt and oatmeal a lot lately, so I thought I’d give you a bit of information on them and some of their benefits:

flax seed

FLAX SEEDS (from WebMD):

Although flaxseed contains all sorts of healthy components, it owes its primary healthy reputation to three of them:

  • Omega-3 essential fatty acids, “good” fats that have been shown to have heart-healthy effects. Each tablespoon of ground flaxseed contains about 1.8 grams of plant omega-3s.
  • Lignans, which have both plant estrogen and antioxidant qualities. Flaxseed contains 75 to 800 times more lignans than other plant foods.
  • Fiber. Flaxseed contains both the soluble and insoluble types.

Have a great Sunday evening! Love, Kathryn (aka, the “HauteAngel”)

Is there anybody going to listen to my story all about the girl who came to stay? Stella McCartney

Just 8 short days ago, fashion designer Stella McCartney (daughter of Paul McCartney of Beatles fame and the late Linda McCartney (singer, photograph, and animal rights activist)) came under heavy cyber-fire for posting an emaciated model on Instagram wearing a tank top from her Spring/Summer 2015 line. The photograph was snapped backstage at McCartney’s Paris Fashion Week show, 14 years after the debut of her first Paris week.

The image was accompanied by the caption, “Worn well!!! X Stella,” which was accurate in that the model was wearing a Stella McCartney shirt but “well”….well, that is subjective. To HauteAngel, she is pretty girl but doesn’t look healthy, however what runway model does.  Instagramer’s decided to take it upon themselves to cyber-scold McCartney by proceeding to post cruel comments about the waifish model. The designer apologized for the picture a few days later, which must have made the model feel horrible, and then posted another, slightly-better fed model in the same shirt.

The year McCartney designed the line for the Olympic athletes of Great Britain, her choice to use “too little red” brought great her a bit of controversy. Red is the predominant color in the country’s flag.

McCartney was criticized by many tweeters on her Twitter account, calling the collection a total failure. She replied with class, saying the designs suggested the flag’s colors more than any other line made for the team from 1984 to date. Pretty logical comeback. She added that the flag was the primary source of inspiration, but she wanted to give the outfits a modern approach.

But McCartney is pretty unscathed in the fast and furious fashion business. A lifelong vegetarian, McCartney does not use any fur or leather in any of her designs and has remained true to that.  Stella McCartney’s commitment to sustainability is evident throughout all her collections and is part of the brand’s mission to being a responsible, honest, and modern company.

Some new additions to her recent collection follow:
